High Altitude Kitchen

There are several ways to hunt elk, but none quite as traditional and adventurous as a horse camp deep in the Rocky Mountain Wilderness. Located seven miles from the public trailhead our Castle Creek Elk Camp sets at 10,000 foot elevation and is the finest horse camp lodging in the Rocky Mountain region; a first-class traditional hunting camp with some modern amenities.

Base camp 1st season rifleSturdy, dry, and roomy, our 12x15 canvas wall tents accommodate up to four hunters each and are furnished with wall-to-wall flooring, screened windows and doors, base camp style cots with mattresses, wood burning stoves with clothes drying racks, and solar lighting.

The spacious 16x32 dining tent is the most popular place in camp. A warm and comfortable gathering place where friendships are made and card games are played, where jokes are told and hunting tales are shared. It’s also where some of the best meals you’ll ever eat are prepared and served by our camp chef, a master at high altitude cuisine. Enjoy delicious and savory foods such as steaks, pork loins, burgers, pastas, soups, salads, vegetables, and fresh baked pies and cakes. Eat better than you ever thought possible in a wilderness hunting camp, and it you’re not careful, you might even gain a few pounds.

The Dining HallOther camp facilities include a guide tent, latrine tent, tack tent, and a gun tent to keep your weapon safe, secure, and dry.

Well trained and gentle mountain horses are provided for everyday of your hunt. These experienced horses have many hours on the hunting trails and are sure footed and strong. Whether you’re a tenderfoot or a pro, we’ll match your riding ability to one of our quality horses. Your comfortable padded saddle is sized and adjusted for you, and we furnish a cordura scabbard for your weapon, and saddle bags for your gear.

Castle Creek Base CampAn experienced and qualified guide is provided on a one to two hunter basis, or arrange for a one on one guide for an additional fee. Our guides are knowledgeable, friendly, and unique fellows who have many years of experience guiding and hunting in the West Elks. These guys are the top guides in the area and we’re proud to call them our friends and thrilled they’re a part of our team.

For an unforgettable experience book a hunt with Tenderfoot Outfitters. At our Castle Creek Elk Camp we’re at your service, so bring your gear, sit back and relax, enjoy the camaraderie, but be ready to hunt. If you’ve been looking for the elk hunt of a lifetime, this is it………

This was the best hunt I’ve ever experienced in my 10 years of hunting Colorado, and all the credit goes to the great group of guys with Tenderfoot outfitters. The camp, atmosphere, and the overall organization of the hunt were just outstanding. I’ve finally found a fine group of gentlemen where I will feel comfortable bringing my young sons for their first elk hunt. You guys are great! Thanks a million….
