If you’ve been searching for the hunt of a lifetime, this is it. There are several ways to hunt elk and mule deer, but none are quite as adventurous and traditional as a horse camp deep in the Rocky Mountain Wilderness. Our Castle Creek base camp is located at 10,000 foot elevation and is the finest horse camp lodging in the Rocky Mountain region; a first-class traditional hunting camp with some modern conveniences.
Roomy 12x20 wall tents can accommodate up to five hunters each and are furnished with spring beds with mattresses and pillows, propane lanterns, wood burning Cylinder Stoves, and clothes drying racks.
The spacious 16x32 dining hall is the most popular tent in camp. A warm and comfortable gathering place where friendships are made and card games are played, where jokes are told and huntin’ tales are shared. It’s also where some of the best meals you’ll ever eat are prepared and served by our chef, a master at high altitude cooking. Delicious and savory foods such as barbecued beef brisket, pork loin, smothered chicken breasts, soups, salads, vegetables, and fresh baked pies and cakes. You’ll eat better than you ever thought possible in a wilderness hunting camp, and if you’re not careful, you might even gain a few pounds.
The heated latrine tent is a hit on those crisp mountain mornings, and the hot shower is really popular when you start having trouble standing yourself. A separate gun tent keeps your weapon safe, secure, and dry.
Well trained and gentle mountain horses are supplied for everyday of your hunt. These experienced horses have many hours on the hunting trails and are sure-footed and strong. Whether you’re a tenderfoot or pro, we’ll match your riding ability to one of our quality horses. Your saddle is padded, and comfortable, and we furnish a cordura scabbard for your weapon, and saddle bags for all your gear.
An experienced and qualified guide is provided on a one to two hunter basis, or a one on one guide is available for an additional fee. Our guides are knowledgeable, friendly, and unique fellows who have many years of experience hunting and guiding in the West Elks. These guys are the best guides in the area and we’re proud they’re a part of our team.
For the experience of a lifetime, book one of our guided hunts. At our base camp we’re at your service, so bring your gear, sit back and relax, but be ready to hunt! Call to book your hunt, but don’t wait too long, as these camps fill quickly each season.
